First off, we are humbled with the overall love we have received for Taste for a Cure Gala. The success in our event thus far is a direct result of our sponsors and you all’s support to provide education for proper skin care as well as find a cure for the deadliest form of skin cancer, melanoma. As we gear up for this amazing event in May, the team at Polka Dot Mama felt the need though to step back, and make sure that we connected our ongoing mission of curing melanoma with our local, and bigger community.
Sure, we are taught to vigorously apply sunscreen, we are persuaded to wear hats when possible, and yes, we are told sunburns are the equivalent of cooking our skin. These things are important, but we feel a certain responsibility in uncovering the community’s stories to discover what makes you, and your experience with skincare, different.
Each week we will interview someone in our community who currently has melanoma, is a survivor of melanoma, or has encountered melanoma in some aspect. By being open and honest in our personal journey with skin care and skin cancer, we can humanize melanoma and bring us back to our original goal of educating and aiding research for a cure.
So, how do your spots tell a story?
